Who are we?

Children and youth enter foster care for many reasons—none of which define their worth or their potential. Yet too often, transition-age youth are viewed through a lens of limitation rather than possibility. We reject that narrative. When young people are provided with consistent mentoring, meaningful relationships, and access to essential life skills, resources, and opportunities, they don’t just “get by”—they rise. They become resilient, self-aware, and purpose-driven individuals who actively contribute to their communities and the workforce. With the right support, these young adults are not statistics—they are leaders, creators, and change-makers in the making.

New Life is a community-based advocacy and empowerment service provider which unlike most other similar agencies, offers individual, focused driven, one-on-one advocacy to youth ages 16-25 who are or will be aging out of the foster care system.

Secondly, most other agencies use the word “client”. We, on the other hand believe that we are working in partnership with these youths, therefore we choose to refer to them as “youth partners”

which we believe clearly define our partnership with them. We meet each youth partner where they are and allow them to take the lead in identifying their desires for their future growth and become self- sustaining as they enter into adulthood.

What also sets us apart from other organizations is that we are committed to limit our caseload so that we can offer a better opportunity to provide more intensive focus driven advocacy, empowerment, case management and assistance in navigating the complexities of transitioning into adulthood. New Life’s advocates help our youth partners develop and achieve their own goals as we strive for 100% success.

It is a deeply harmful misconception that children and youth who enter foster care are defined by overwhelming trauma, further intensified by their experiences within the system. This narrative reinforces a common belief that young people in care are permanently damaged and therefore not “normal.” These assumptions perpetuate stigma against youth aging out of care and make it more difficult for the public to recognize that transition-age youth are fully capable of thriving in adulthood—especially when provided with the right support. In reality, when transition-age youth are met with stability, encouragement, and opportunity, their resilience emerges as a powerful force—enabling them to succeed, lead, and meaningfully contribute to their communities.

All young people need to be plugged into supportive networks as they approach adulthood. This is especially true for transitioning age foster youth – young people between the ages of 16 through 21 who are transitioning out of the foster care system. They need a comprehensive set of supports in place to promote healthy development and lifelong wellbeing as adults.

Once a youth partner is referred to New Life and they agree to voluntarily accept services, we will meet with our new youth partner and with their assistance, prepare a detailed intake which will include their input on how we will move forward together to accomplish first the immediate needs. Together we will prioritize, set reasonable daily and weekly goals/deadlines. We will focus and celebrate the small wins as we work together toward success.

Our youth partners will work hand-in-hand with our case managers as they demonstrate (self) advocacy and personal empowerment so that our youth partners feel a sense of accomplishment in designing a path for their future.  Our youth partners will witness advocacy firsthand, participate in the process, hence learning to speak for themselves with respect, confidence and dignity.
